Printing white ink: what is it all about?
White ink is magical in the world of sticker and label printing. Not only can it be used by itself, it also perfect for creating a base for vibrant color. Let's have a look at the options white ink printing gives us:
Transparent white
Depending on the label material used, printing color directly onto the material generates different effects. When working with a transparent background, we can create a so-called stained-glass look - a semi-transparent colored effect, even in white.
White ink underprinting
If you do not want a stained-glass look, we use white ink to dilute the effect. This is called white ink underprinting because we print white ink underneath the colors you want to appear opaquely, aka not have the effect. White ink is therefore essential for color label printing as it functions as a neutral canvas for creating stunning colors.
Opaque white
Of course, this logic works just as well with white ink. When we print two layers of white ink, we can create a beautifully vibrant white look on your labels. Even tiny details like small text is not a problem at all.
How to order clear labels with white ink?
If you have used design software like Adobe Illustrator before, you can create your own white layers where you want white ink underprinting. Our preferred file format for that is a vector, to make sure that the white layers translate correctly.
