What makes a sticker removable?
Whether you can remove your die cut stickers easily depends on the adhesive used.
Broadly speaking, there are three different kinds of adhesives: removable, permanent, and high-tack.
If you are looking for a sticker that will be easy to remove, you might think that a removable adhesive is the best option. But removable adhesives do only bond well with specific surfaces.
A permanent adhesive, on the other hand, is the ideal all-rounder. It has a medium "stickiness", which ensures that your custom stickers last and can be removed without any hassle.
Most of our sustainable sticker range and vinyl stickers come with a permanent adhesive.
How do you remove a die cut sticker?
Removing a custom die cut sticker can be slightly more difficult than removing its round or square counterparts. That is because your die cuts are custom cut precisely in the exact shape of your design.
You can learn more about this in our blog post what is a die cut sticker.
Because of their custom shape, die cut stickers tend to have more edges than traditional shapes. This means that they are more likely to tear when you remove them.
On top of that, a vinyl sticker is usually waterproof, making their removal even more tricky. But with our tips, you will remove even a die cut vinyl sticker in no time.
What do I need to remove my die cut stickers?
Removing stickers boils down to breaking the bond between the adhesive and the surface. This can either be done manually or chemically.
Manual ways of removing die cut stickers include a credit card or a razor blade. This is a great way to remove stickers from devices that should not come in contact with water or chemicals, for example a laptop that you cannot really soak in soapy water.
We recommend using a cloth or cotton bud soaked in soapy water or oil for any other surfaces. Dab the liquid onto your die cut stickers and let it sit for a few minutes. You can then easily peel your stickers.
What about paper stickers?
When you order custom die cut stickers, you can choose between several premium materials. One of them includes our super popular biodegradable paper.
Paper-based stickers are even easier to remove because they are not waterproof. Simply use a wet cloth and cover your stickers. Wait for a couple of minutes and slowly peel them off.
How can I remove sticker residue?
Even if your stickers leave adhesive residue behind, do not worry. Here are some ways you can remove residue quickly, giving your surface that professional look back.
- Apply a hot cloth: Place a cloth over the residue and apply heat with a hairdryer or boiling water. The heat will cause the adhesive to soften and make it easier to remove.
- Use oil: Soak a cloth in vegetable oil and apply it to the leftovers. The oil will help break down the adhesive, so it can be removed more easily.
- Try brake cleaner: Spray brake cleaner or an alcohol-based cleaner onto the residue and let it sit for a few minutes. The lubricant will help dissolve the adhesive residue.
