The world of custom stickers is full of jargon. But what does it actually mean? In this article, we will shed some light on the term "kiss cut".
Kiss cut stickers are one of the most effective marketing tools. But what makes them unique? And how are they different from other sticker options like die cut stickers or sticker sheets?
You're about to find out!
What is a kiss cut?
Kiss cutting means that a sticker will only be cut through the material layer while the paper backing stays intact. This means that a material border will form around your stickers.
You can see that in the above image. The "BodyLab Gym" logo was only cut through the clear vinyl layer. When you peel the sticker, the backing material remains part of the larger sticker.
So, when sticker printers refer to a kiss cut, it refers to the depth of the cut that only impacts the vinyl layer.
What is the difference between a kiss cut and a die cut?
Die cut and kiss cut stickers can both be cut in a custom shape. However, where kiss cuts are only cut through the material layer, die cut stickers are cut through the vinyl and paper backing.
This means that the edge of your die cut sticker will be the edge of your design. Your die cut sticker will therefore be in the exact shape of your sticker.
Have a look at the examples below that visualise the different between the two sticker options.
Can I get holographic kiss cut stickers?
Absolutely. Your kiss cut stickers can be printed onto any of our sticker material options. Just head over to our kiss cut stickers page and select your material of choice.
Did you know that you can use holographic stickers for up to one year outside as well? All of our vinyl stickers come with a clear and glossy UV lamination that gives these stickers outdoor durability, making them waterproof and scratch-resistant.
What is a kiss cut label?
Remember that kiss cutting means that your stickers are only cut through the material layer? It is exactly the same for kiss cut labels. However, instead of being individually cut, kiss cut labels will be printed onto sticker sheets.
Sticker sheets are always kiss cut. You will find several stickers printed onto one A4 sheet. In order to peel your stickers from the sheet, they have to be cut through the material layer - kiss cutting.
A sticker sheet is the perfect option for you if you are looking to brand hundreds of products. Custom labels are much easier to peel and therefore faster to apply.
