What makes a good transfer sticker

If you're interested in getting transfer stickers but want to know more, read on. Firstly, what is a transfer sticker?

A transfer sticker gets cut from a single piece of vinyl. We remove the unwanted parts, leaving just the image behind.

We then apply a transparent transfer tape to hold the pieces together for the application. 

The limitations of transfer stickers

Because a human needs to remove the excess vinyl manually, they can be expensive in comparison to other stickers. 

The manual labour also means minute detail isn't possible as each piece needs to be large enough to stay in place during the weeding process. We recommend a minimum size of 3mm or more in any direction. For example, for a lowercase 'i' the dot needs to be 3mm in diameter.

The final limitation is that transfer stickers are usually only available in a single colour because they get cut from a single piece of coloured vinyl. If you want lots of small details or multiple colours, go for clear stickers.

How to get the best transfer sticker

• Choose a simple, bold design and ensure no piece smaller than 3mm, to help with the durability of the sticker, so each piece stays in place. Transfers aren't very durable because of lots of edges that can pick up if rubbed, like on the phone going in & out of a bag or pocket.
• Ensure your design looks fantastic in a single colour.
• Ask yourself if a transfer sticker is going to be best for your application. We find transfer stickers work best when it's applied to glass or another material where you want to see the surface through your sticker.
